Chambers USA 2008 Ranks Lawler, Metzger, Milkman & Keeney as One
of the Top Telecom Law Firms in Washington, D.C.
For the fifth year in a row, Chambers USA has ranked
Lawler, Metzger, Milkman & Keeney as one of the top
firms specializing in telecommunications law in the
Washington, D.C. area. The following is an excerpt from
the 2008 Chambers article.
The Firm: This “exceptionally
strong” communications boutique offers “a
quality that you can normally only find in
larger firms.” What’s more, its size
ensures clients benefit from “prolonged,
personal attention from the key partners.”
These partners offer a mix of private and
public practice experience, meaning they are
ideally placed to navigate the framework of
the FCC. Recently, they have been heavily
involved in doing just this for trophy
client Sprint Nextel concerning headline
spectrum issues including its auction-free
relocation to the 1.9 GHz band.
The Lawyers:
Sources agree that
Richard
Metzger “is without doubt one of
the best telecom lawyers in the world.” To
peers he is “a revered former FCC official,”
and can therefore provide clients with “a
key insider’s perspective.” He has recently
represented Microsoft, Skype and Yahoo! in
the Customer Proprietary Network Information
proceeding. Gina
Keeney is one of the telecom
Bar’s most seasoned and best-regarded
attorneys: “Having been chief of three
different bureaus at the FCC she understands
better than many others how policy is
formed.” Ruth
Milkman brings a “thoughtful and
straightforward” approach to complex
strategic matters. Her experience and
understanding of the regulatory framework
gives her a natural foresight in cases:
“It’s as if she can see into the future.”
She has appeared before the FCC in various
proceedings concerning Sorenson
Communications'' Video Relay Service and IP
Relay.
